Dear members and friends,
Gmar chatima Tova — may you be inscribed for a good year!
We thank Cantor Francois Lilienfeld for leading our High Holiday services. We are already looking forward to his next visit! Thank you to Rebekka Dohme for adding her lovely voice to the Kol Nidre service.
It was a special honor to have Union of Progressive Jews of Germany’s new general secretary, Mr. Shmuel Bahagon, with us on Rosh Hashana. We thank Volodymir Pesok for blowing the shofar. It is wonderful to see that foreign guests seek our congregation out when in Hameln and we were pleased to host several Jewish visitors from abroad during the holidays.
Sukkoth was an “historic” event this year as we erected the first Sukka in 64 years on the land where the former Hameln Synagogue once stood (see the newspaper article in “In The News”). Cantor Lilienfeld led very moving services in our Sukka. May it be God’s will that we soon celebrate all our services in our own synagogue at that site!

News And Information

Meeting
We held a spontaneous information meeting for those members receiving welfare. The information is available in German and Russian in our office. Those needing translation help at the Welfare office should call Faina for an appointment.

Cemetery
Rabbi Irit Shillor dedicated the beautiful stone marker at our new cemetery and led unveiling ceremonies for Jan Olvovski’s stone in August. We remind our members that both Jewish cemeteries are open to our members.

Rabbi Irit Shillor
Thanks to a grant from the European Region of the World Union for Progressive Judaism (ER/WUPJ) and the Friends of Progressive Judaism plus contributions from the congregations, it has become possible to offer Rabbi Shillor a half-time position in five congregations in Germany. Beginning in October, Rabbi Shillor will serve Hannover, Hameln, Bad Pyrmont, Gudensberg and Hildesheim with monthly visits.
The congregations are helping themselves to offer professional religious services in their communities, which will solidify and strengthen their community life. Mazel Tov to us!

Rosh Hashana Tzedaka
Jewish tradition teaches us to give Tzedaka. We thank the following for their contributions: Rachmanov family, Pelts family, Dohme family, Pesok family, Mrs. Shkolnykova, Mr. Vogelhuber, Mrs. Armbrecht, Mrs. Demuth, Mrs. Niedert, and Mrs. Meissner.

Synagogue Building Fund
Thank you to Mrs. Liselotte Southam, England, who lived in Hessisch Oldendorf until the war, for her contribution to our fund. We also thank Mr. Peter Frey for his contribution. Mr. Frey gave a portion of his honorarium from a lecture with “Hameln Forum.”

Tree of Life
New leaves have been bought by the Titze family, Bad Pyrmont, and the Eilon family, Israel. Even though it’s autumn out, our “Tree” must grow new leaves. Leaves can be ordered online for $50. This money goes to the building fund.

Sympathy
Our heartfelt sympathy to the Fridman family on the loss of their son’s mother-in-law. May her soul be bound up in the covenant of life.
