 PROGRAM

Dear Members and Friends,
The month of May was a busy one for our congregation!
Our congregation’s contribution to the Israeli Cultural Festival in Lower Saxony was certainly a highlight. The photography exhibit from Israeli artist, Shai Ginott was seen by hundreds during the two-week show at Hameln’s City Hall. It was wonderful having a bit of Israel in Hameln. Our opening was a huge success, thanks to the many people who helped to make it happen. We thank student rabbi Alina Treyher and our own Rebekka Dohme for the concert, Christiana and Faina for the buffet, and Dieter and team for preparing the exhibit. It is clear that the Jewish Congregation of Hameln is an intregal part of our city!
We’ve been busy getting our new rooms ready for our move. Our new address is Bahnhofstr.22. Everything is fresh, bright and new. Besides our regular religious and cultural activities, we offer German class, yoga class, and a dance class on a weekly basis. We can do more — what ideas do you have? A chess club, a theater group, Hebrew for adults, Torah study group, a book club . . . tell us your ideas and we’ll make it happen together.
Don’t forget — If you have news and information that you’d like to share with your fellow congregants for the next newsletter, let us know.

Friday Night Services and the 9th of May
Thanks to student rabbi Alina Treyher, Alla Drejzer, Polina Lyfschitz, Nina Sinizina, Elena Gorbacheva and Polina Pelts for a dignified service commemorating the end of WWII. A special thanks to Larissa Dvortsis for the beautiful meal. We honor all those who fought to end Nazi tyranny.

Kehille
Inna Golbereg teaches our youngest ones every Monday from 4:00 to 5:00 at the community center. The Kehille group learns about Judaism through song, dance arts and crafts and lots of fun. Inna and the children invite all 4–8-year-olds to join them. Parents and grandparents are also welcome to join in.

Summer Camp

Machene
Our summer camp (Machene) is just around the corner. Children between the ages of 8 and 18 can spend 10 days in Oberstaufen with friends from Reform Jewish congregations all over Germany. The cost is 300 Euros. Registration forms are available in our synagogue office.

Ninth Annual Conference of the Union of Progressive Jews of Germany
The ninth annual UPJ conference will take place July 10th–13th in Berlin. In addition to our conference, we will join the World Union for Progressive Judaism in celebrating it’s 75th birthday. The first conference was in Berlin in 1928. We expect many guests from our WU headquarters — Rabbi Uri Regev, Mrs. Ruth Cohen, and Rabbi Joel Oseran to name a few. We’ll also greet Dr. Leo Hepner from the London office. The conference is sure to be an exciting four days for all participants. Conference languages are German, Russian, and English. Registration forms are available in our office and online at www.liberale-juden.de

A Very Special Shavuot
As if Shavuot were not special enough! This year we have three reasons to celebrate. During Shavuot week, the former Jewish residents of Hameln will once again be our guests along with their host families. It is a special honor to celebrate this holiday with them. We will also dedicate our new rooms. Last but certainly not least, we will, along with the Reform congregations of Bad Pyrmont, Gudensberg, and Hannover, induct Rabbi Irit Shillor as our communal rabbi. Joining us will be Marilyn and Ken Teacher from “Friends of Progressive Judaism in Israel and Europe”. It will be a very special night for our congregation and all our friends!

Todah Rabah — Thank You
We thank the 5th grade of Temple Emanu-el of Tempe, Arizona for their generous contribution to our synagogue building fund. The children held a bake sale for us, and we thank them for thinking of us. We especially loved the art work they sent!

Contributions
Thanks go out to Mr. Krahl and Mrs. Meyer for their contributions. We also thank all those who “fed“ our Tzedaka box during the art exhibit.

Friends
We welcome Mr. Krahl and Mrs. Meyer to our “Freundeskreis”. We are very appreciative of the help and support the Freundeskreis gives us. Their generousity allows us to do many things that we would not be able to do otherwise.

Mazel Tov — Congratulations
We welcome Dieter Vogelhuber–Shmuel ben Avraham as our newest member. Dieter’s conversion (Giur) was completed on May 20 in London, and he received his first aliya during services on the following Shabbat, led by Rabbi Shillor. We’re so proud of you, Dieter!

Tree of Life
A new leaf has been contributed by the Dohme family in honor of Dieter Vogelhuber’s conversion. If you would like to purchase a leaf for our tree, forms are available in the office or on this Web site. The cost is 50 Euros and the money raised goes to our building fund.

Unvieling
The unveiling for the stone of Vladimir Rubanov was held with family and friends on Friday morning, May 23, at the Jewish cemetery Wehl. May his memory be for a blessing.
