Dear members, friends and supporters,
We celebrated the High Holy Days very impressively in our community this year. The Kol Nidre was wonderfully performed by Faina Pelts and Uwe Wolandowitsch. After services many members went home emotionally moved and touched. The same mood accompanied us the following day throughout services. Many members fasted as in the previous years. The emotional prayers found their climax in Neila on Yom Kippur afternoon. We remembered our passed-away family members and friends by laying a stone. Pronouncing the names of passed ones aloud brought all members closer together and put us into a bond with the ones before us. After services we sat together for break-the-fast, just like a big family. Our conversations were marked by the words of the drasha of our visiting rabbi Margaret Frisch Klein, who had spoken about the power of words. Words have power and importance and should not be used irresponsibly. Again the livelihood of our community was shown by discussion and communal spirit.
A beautiful sukkah was built for Sukkot on the grounds for a future synagogue on a bright fall afternoon. Our president, Rachel Dohme, lead a short, festive service. Friends of our community had gathered to shake the lulav with us. The children of our congregation told us about Sukkot and about the passage through the desert. They reminded us that Sukkot was one of the three pilgrimage festivals and a time for thanksgiving.
For Simchat Torah we were delighted to host our Rabbi Irit Shillor who brought a new idea into our community. We rolled up the entire Torah and each member had to hold a part of it, so that each and every one was connected with it. We had the chance to ask questions about the different parts of the Torah, which our rabbi answered. The community center was filled with respect for the Torah. After reading the last parasha of the Torah, Rabbi Shillor read the very first parasha Bereshit and started the cycle of Torah readings again, symbolizing that the study of Torah never comes to an end. Afterwards we sat together for a meal and danced, enjoying a day to celebrate the Torah.
Throughout the festivals we collected money for the new kindergarten “Tamar” of the Liberal community in Hannover and were finally able to send them €200. We are pleased to support them in their work.

Jewish November
On November 9th we will remember the destruction of Germany's synagogues by the Nazis. On this day we remember the once flourishing Jewish life of Germany.

Congregation Assembly
Monday, November 12th we will hear about the plans for the construction of our new synagogue building from our architect Frank Taylor. He will present the plans to the foundation, the advisory board, the board of trustees, as well as the community members. This is an informative meeting for our members. The foundation was founded to realize the project for our community. So we will trust the wisdom of its members to make the right decision for our future synagogue. There will be time to ask questions. It is important that many community members attend this meeting in order to show their interested and the trust they put into the foundation.

Weekly Torah Study
Again we have established services and Torah study on Saturday mornings. We read, interpret and discuss the Torah. The parasha is read in German and Russian every week. It would be nice to have some more
members in our discussions. After exchanging ideas and thoughts, we of course provide some drinks and snacks. Thus Shabbat mornings become a pleasure for body and soul!

Guests in the synagogue
Again our community is looking forward to having company and is pleased to host the community Wolfsburg-Braunschweig on November 24th for Saturday morning services and Torah study. After reading and discussing the parasha, we will have a small lunch and then head off for a short tour of the (Jewish) Hamelin.

Integration Office
We have been successful in receiving a government grant for an integration project. The project is being financed by the Ministry for Migration and Refugees. The goal of the project is to network with various social, religious and cultural organizations in the county of Hameln-Pyrmont in order to facilitate the integration of FSU Jews. This complex project will be administered by Mrs. Faina Pelts. We wish to thank Irith Michelsohn and Dieter Vogelhuber for their support writing this grant.

Exhibit: “Bonjour Russland”
Faina Pelts has organized a trip to the art exhibit “Bonjour Russia.” French and Russian masterpieces from the 18th and 19th century are on exhibit in the Duesseldorf Art Palace. Our members will go on a trip to Duesseldorf on November 27th at 8.00 am. There will be a guided tour in Russian. Don't miss this cultural highlight!

New Members
We are pleased to welcome the Berhovski's as new members of our community!
